In winter, experience what Skiing Magazine rated as the best powder in North America. The skiing/riding at Kicking Horse Resort is second to none in three bowls formerly open only to heli-skiers. Heli-skiing is available in the bowls adjacent to Kicking Horse Resort. And for the truly adventurous in pursuit of virgin powder, backcountry skiing is very popular in many of the bowls adjacent to Kicking Horse Resort. The lodging’s location near the base of the Pioneer Chair at Kicking Horse is great for exploring the mountain and within 5 minutes walking distance to restaurants, pubs, and shopping located at the base of the gondola in the Plaza at Kicking Horse. Additional winter activities at or near Kicking Horse Resort include cross-country skiing, back country touring, snowmobile tours, ice skating, ice climbing, dog sledding, snowshoeing and tubing.

Kicking Horse is a relatively new resort and isn't as well known as its long established neighbors like Lake Louise and Sunshine at Banff. As a result, the slopes are relatively uncrowded and there is usually no waiting at the lifts excepting holidays. Although Kicking Horse Resort has an abundance of expert runs with 70 inbound chutes, there are many beginner and intermediate runs for family fun including a 10 km beginner run from top to bottom. And as for dining, you cannot beat the spectacular 360 degree views from the Eagle’s Eye Restaurant at the top of Kicking Horse Resort. The scenery on the ride up includes Boo the Grizzly Bear who resides underneath the gondola and the incredible Columbia River Valley framed by the Rocky Mountains.
